Barrier technology and coating process

The InnoPET Plasmax machine coats PET bottles with a nanometres thin silicon oxide layer on the inside which prevents migration of gases and flavours. The patented coating process is carried out in several steps vacuum chambers each containing two bottles. After the bottles have been loaded and a vacuum has been generated a reaction gas mixture is charged which is subsequently transferred into the energy-rich plasma state using microwaves.

The silicon oxide generated is deposited evenly on the entire inner bottle surface to form an invisible and impermeable protection layer. The coating is free of residues and does note require any additional cleaning or rinsing prior to bottle filling.

The InnoPET Plasmax control system enables precise adjustment of the individual process parameters ensuring optimal coordination of the entire coating process to meet various application requirements.
